Am heading out there in a few weeks- have done the usual online research of course, but any of you peeps got any good tips????

Apart from enjoy!?

I went there about 3 years ago and did an overnight hike around the Scroon Lake area and it is a very beautiful place and rather remote from civilisation. I get the feeling the people who live there are rather embarrassed to be in New York State as many visitors just assume the city and the state are populated by the same people.

Mid-May should be OK for tempature by take a warm jacket as it can still be chilly at night.

No experience of hotels etc. as mine was a one-man tent. Remember you will be in Bear Country too.

Thanks Darren. I was kind of assuming it might be a tad cool, but, then again, I assume that even when I'm going somewhere tropical! Will be staying in a log cabin - so hopefully I can avoid the bears.[y]

remember to read Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods" for a bit of a laugh... although I'd maybe wait until you've come home for that, so you don't convince yourself you're being chased by a bear all the way through!

Was there many years ago - beautiful part of the country. Can't recall where I stayed, but I did have a hot air baloon flight over the lakes - fantastic!

It's also supposed to be prime Bigfooot country - don't forget your camera and listen out for sounds like wood knocking and whistles late at night in the woods...
