Slightly associated with the Ryanair starting LH operations is this.

Zoom have confirmed they will start operating LGW-JFK and LGW-Bermuda from 21st June. Seats go on sale tomorrow from http://www.flyzoom.com. Prices starting at £129 one way. DoT has ruled that the JFK flights cannot be sold in the US. The route will be operating using two 763's under Zooms UK operating license with UK crew.

CO, AA, BA, VS, MY, E0, DL, KU, AI, Y7 and Z4 now all operating LON-NYC the market is getting rather crowded, although three of those are business only carriers.

These boys have announced that they will be flying to JFK from LGW and flights start at £129 - full service using the Esayjet style booking process - the nearer to flight time you get the more expensive the seat.

Of more interest is what the price compares to for the Zoom premium cabin compared to say VS PE and BA wt+...I can't look at fares as the site is blocking me, damn DOT [}:)]

Zoom Premium Cabin:

36" seat pitch
Selection of your seat number
Complimentary alcoholic drinks
Choice of meal and 1 snack
Increased baggage allowance (30Kg)
Priority baggage delivery
Complimentary headsets
Dedicated check in & reduced check in time (90 mins prior to departure)

For September, the lowest fares I can find for LGW>JFK are:

Economy = £243 return
Economy+premium supplement = £500

To select your seat at time of booking on economy fares, it's an extra £10 each way.

Regards

You will be able to by the end of Sept- DoT want them to do some route proving before they allow them to fly American based pax. Or something like that...

As with all LCCs the best prices for Zoom are when you buy about 12-10months in advanced. I remember looking at flights to Vancouver and getting a very good deal offered a couple of years back. Last minute- much like U2, B6 etc- they will be the same price as VS et al.

At last, an alternative to BA for Bermuda-UK travellers![y] I'm not sure that Zoom will be much competition for BA as BA have daily flights to LGW whereas Zoom won't,I believe.

Recently the Bermudian Premier has been trying to encourage new airlines to fly to Bermuda, which can only be good in terms of lowerng flight prices. The cost of flights from the UK to the Island can be prohibitive, especially for friends and family that want to visit.

If you do manage to get a cheap flight to BDA with Zoom then I wish you luck in getting a hotel room. They are expensive and few and far between!
