I thought there was a company offering a 'hybrid' meet and greet type service at Gatwick where you would drive your car to an off-site car park when departing but they would meet and greet you at the terminal on your return.

Does anyone know which company offer this as I have just looked and I cannot find this now. I had a feeling it was maple manor but they don't seem to offer this at the moment. It maybe that the service has been withdrawn.

Wasn't one (or more) of the companies subject to a television investigation which showed that cars were not securely parked as believed by those using the service, but were parked here, there and everywhere?

Yes, can't remember the name of the company involved, but the report was enough to ensure I wouldn't entrust my car keys to to any of the meet-and-greet parking services.

Well I am sure glad the TV doesn't influence your decision making too much Pete :)

Yes, I remember the show, and I think it was actually a M&G at Heathrow that was subject to the investigation PLUS I believe they announced in this weeks show that the same company has now ceased trading and hasn't returned 2 cars.

But basing your logic on everything would mean that I shouldn't fly because I have seen that some planes crash (as reported on TV!), in fact I probably shouldn't drive as some people have car crashes and I shouldn't trust any person and some people murder others.

Perhaps I didn't explain my logic clearly then ;)

From the Watchdog programme it was pretty clear that the off-site meet-and-greet is an unregulated business, and because of sketchy details about "secure" parking, you can't be certain what will actually happen to your car. Therefore, if I park the car myself at one of the main on-site car parks, I will feel far more confident that my car is secure and not going to be tampered with while I'm away. It's not a guarantee, but the risk is more acceptable. Equally, the class A operating certificate an airline has, gives me a certain amount of confidence that they know how to fly planes safely. Driving licenses encourage the majority of road users to at least grasp the basics of operating a car before venturing out onto the road, and the police force and judicial system at least give me hope that murder has sufficient deterrent to make it a reasonably rare event while I'm shopping at M&S. Nothing, of course, is guaranteed, but we all take evaluated risks every day.

Oh my!!! Decency prevents me adding to this.....

I always use a carpark where I keep the keys while away. From LGW, there have been problems reported at the Copthorne Hotel. other websites show people who parked using the on-site long stay have had damage done to cars, dents and even the hatch gas struts swapped. I myself had mud all over the interior. Won't be using them again!!
