Dollar Express and Virgin Booking

If I book a Dollar car rental through Virgin Atlantic site, will I still be able to use the Dollar Express counter to collect the car or would I need to book direct with Dollar quoting my Express membership number?

What I have found out so far is that you cannot go to the Express desk unless your booking was booked with your Express number. Although various booking agents will pass the Express number on (e.g uscarhire). Have not tried a booking on the VS site yet but I assume they do not ask you for the Express number, will try when I get home tonight...

What I find pretty strange is that you don't appear to be able to use your express number when booking through http://www.dollar.co.uk!

Think it is a US feature only so you need to book through dollar.com

Update from me is that I found no way of passing the Express number through Virgin booking so I will probably book through one of the other agents who do accept Dollar Express bookings.

I sent an email to Dollar and got my Virgin holidays voucher number added to my dollar express for my holiday in Dec. Not sure how it will work at MCO though as they have a dedicated desk for Virgin holidays so may be a waste for me.

The VH website gives details of how to pre-register with Dollar for your booking. It's purely to pre-register your details and implies that it will make the process quicker as Dollar will already have your name and address etc. This is done via the Virgin Holidays car hire desk in association with Dollar.

It's a different process to registering for Dollar Express which is done directly through the Dollar desk.

If booking on the VS site I would imagine that you collect at the actual Dollar desk rather than the VH desk, although the T&Cs on the VS car hire pages actually make reference to Virgin Holidays T&Cs

They refused to accept my Virgin card for points either, as I hadn't booked directly with them. Isn't this splitting hairs somewhat???

I had the same issue at LAX when they would not accept a Virgin FC as I had booked through an agent and not direct.

I've never booked a car through Virgin before so a quick question. It says the Platinum package for £3 extra gives you a whole tank of fuel. That's a bit cheap isn't it? Have I read this correctly? This is for Dollar at SFO.

Well, bear in mind the Platinum Package is $3 per day, and you only get the free tank once, so this benefits you more on shorter rentals (like mine, next week, is 1.5 days, so I'm on a winner!). The other benefits of Platinum like fully-inc insurance and no charge for a second driver make it worthwhile, though.

I use this to my advantage too, if I'm in the states over a 3 week period and my other half is coming for the middle week I change the car when I pick him up and drop him off, saves on car park charges too but that's being really tight [:I]
