So, am I missing the point here?

I get a quote on the hertz website without being logged into my gold account, for a weeks car hire when back in the UK, and it comes in at £150.

I then log into my hertz #1 gold account and get a quote for the same including the Amex Plat CDP no, and the same car for the same period comes in at £350!!!!!

Now... I'm planning on going to France, which adds another £100 on the price and I'll include MrsPVG as an additional driver, which will have a fee... so are these waived if I use my gold account and pay the higher price? I suppose also i should get upgraded to the next level of car?

It's probably better to book the car without being logged in, and trying my luck for an upgrade and fee waiving on the day when i present my gold card.

Any advice?

I could be wrong here, but I don't believe that normal Hertz No.1 Gold Card members get upgrades (as a matter of course).

At least I have been a Gold Card member for some 8/9 years and don't get them (only for operational reasons - i.e. they have sold out of the class that I reserved....).

I believe that you need to be a higher level to get automatic free upgrades... But correct me if I am wrong :)

That's correct, it's '5 Star' Gold members that get one group upgrades if available. You have to rent 10 times in the calendar year (1st January - 31st December) to qualify, and the card comes through in Feb or so the following year.

I've had upgrades about 50% of the time, but like you I had it a few times when I was regular Gold anyway.

David.
