Newark to JFK

Hello all,
Does anyone have any experience of inter-airport transfers in New York.

I am arriving into EWR at 9.40pm and have a morning flight on the VS26 back to LHR from JFK (departing 7.40am).

I am thinking the best way is probably to get straight over to a JFK airport hotel and get some shuteye. Will a normal taxi happily do this trip (any idea on cost?) - presumably I could get dropped straight at the hotel.

Alternatively are there any reasonable transfer companies that offer such (private) transfers - I don't really fancy hanging about waiting for a hotel shuttle at the other end.

Alternatively I suppose we could stay in Manhatten and get an early taxi - the VS26 is on a Sunday morning so presumably traffic won't be so bad at 5am.

A friend of mine did it for a cost of $120 I think.

Also consider the train.

The Air Train at Newark will take you to Newark International Airport Station from the Terminal for free, which in turn takes you into Penn Station NYC. For there you can catch a train to Jamaca, then pick up the Air Train to JFK. Total cost $35 ono from memory.

The trains also run 24 hours, and are frequent.

I've also used this company in NYC who were very very good.

You could use somewhere like Carmel which comes out about $74 from EWR to JFK

If you are travelling light and by yourself this would get my vote - do not think it is even as expensive as this - and quick (80-90 minutes).

Well I like the helicopter option. Very neat but has a connect in NYC proper.

I tend to review the airport's website in regards to ground transport options. I assumed you did. Here is a link to the Newark site. Link: Connecting Between Airports

I have used the 'Airporter'. Comes to about $26 with tip and is quicker than the train. Also you get in the van at JFK and arrive non-stop to EWR. Do worrying about your bags, connecting to another train, etc.

I have to say if money were no object then for $215 I'd helicopter ...

But perhaps the best, and one I have done, is to take a car service from your arrival terminal direct to a hotel at JFK. I prefer to stay there on such occasions rather than downtown Manhattan - means the morning wake up effort is less ... [:w] ... colleagues have used the minibus service before very effectively!

Thanks for all the suggestions - Unfortunately the helicopter is out of the question as it is a saturday night. Also I think we will be too late for the airporter (arriving internationally so will have customs&immigration to deal with at EWR).

I think the private car option may be best (or just a taxi) as we will have a few cases after a 2 week jaunt around central america. Just wondering how practical a taxi is in reality on a saturday night (I know what it is like trying to persuade a black cab that they want to go to St Albans on a busy night despite the £110 price).4
