AA, Delta or US Airways - LAS - JFK??

Hi all

I am looking to fly home at Christmas and AA, Delta and US Airways are all similar price and time to connect with my flight out of JFK. The route is LAS - JFK. Does anyone fly regularly on this route with any of these carriers? Can anyone put any thoughts forward? I have looked at trip reports but not much has come up.

I will prob go economy - I did look at Business class but not sure the American carriers justify the extra $600 they will charge me for not much extra leg room. [n]

I am connecting to a BA flight so AA has the edge - albeit the bookings will be on a different ticket number as they are getting booked separately so it may not be much of an edge [?]

Any ideas gratefully recieved - and if anyone wants to put forward a case for me going Business I will be more than happy to be persuaded!

Having flown all three of them I would probably go with AA in first, in coach, AA or Delta, US has really become a non entity in my book.

Just be sure to leave yourself enough time, some of the LAS - JFK flights are notorious for being late.

Have you looked at JetBlue ?

At the moment I have AA at about $450 - Coach, Delta - $650 Coach, AA - $1500 First or Delta - $1100 Business. The one advantage with the AA flight is that I appear to get 180 BA Tier points for the P class ticket each way - which seems very good as my Upper Class across the pond will only get me 120 each way and it is a factor in my decision! I could get back to EC Silver in one trip - albeit at a premium.

I have heard some pretty bad reviews about AA First though so would value your opinion Scrooge [oo].

I had not thought of JetBlue - in fact not really heard of them - I will take a look.

jetBlue rocks. The new terminal will be openning aroun then too. Consider Virgin America too.

Are you sure you get 180 BA ExecClub TPs each way with AA domestic first? I thought it was 60 ... ?

In recent times I have flown NorthWest, Contintental, United and AA in domestic first - all have been good or bad but United is generally bottom of my list. I'd choose CO where there's a choice, AA second but on a JFK-MSP NorthWest First yesterday they really surprised me.

As mcm says, Virgin America will have started this route by the time of your travel, have you looked at them? There's also the possibility that they will finally ally their FF scheme with Flying Club ... promised last year IIRC.

Unfortunately Virgin America are the prieciest of the lot - and their flight times do not fit in with my incoming/outgoing flights.

Slinky09 - I have to say I was surprised and I will be phoning to check before booking but according to the BA website - a P ticket is classed as First Class - and when you look at a what you get First Class from LAS - JFK it says 3372 miles and 180 Tier Points each way. I am suspicious myself but as the P ticket is First and not Business Class it 'appears' that you can get a windfall in points. As I say I am going to phone BA to check before handing over hard cash!!!

Oh never thought of Northwest - Off to look at them at JetBlue [8D]

I believe the question should be 'which one sucks the least'. Delta in my opinion, but not by much.

Well compared to BA or VS you will be highly unimpressed with any of them, first class domestic is nothing to write home about.

You will get food on AA or DL, nothing on US (again in first, coach your on your own) but for the extra money, if you can swing it, it is probably worth it just so you can feel your legs after the flight.

Just to clear this up - I have now booked my flights and ask the kind chap at BA how many tier points I would get for LAS-JFK route. He confirmed that it is 180 TP each way as it is a 'First' ticket. The fact there is no Business Class on this aircraft, just Economy and First makes this a bit of a good haul of points.

Well that is absolutely great ... and a great bargain too for anyone who wants to get BA EC Ag or Au. Club World from JFK-LHR as you say gains only 120 TPs on BA, yet AA First from LAX to JFK gets 180! This is one of those useful things to know, like SIA First runs for VS points ...

I too was surprised but yes any oneworld first ticket over 2000 miles gets the 180tps - definitely a good way to get BA status!
