It really is a strange thing to see, IB is running the route BCN-MAD-IAD, If the national carrier can't support a non stop route what chances does Untied/Aer Lingus have ?

Who knows Scrooge. IE could have grander plans of starting a base in MAD and this partnership could feed passengers to the continent. IE needs to find different revenue streams and this partnership is just that. I would imagine that the flight will leave at a different bank of flight than the IB flight. Also the IB flight has come and gone in the past.

Also IB does not codeshare with UA as they are OneWorld. IAD is a UA town. I think it is safe to assume that this UA/IE will feed SpainAir in MAD.

This was announced last October and subsequently EI announced that it would be seeking to base aircraft in other cities outside Ireland with the first place being LGW. I can't find a press release in respect of that but hopefully i will if I dig around
