Biometric Passport scanners at LGW

Hi. Can anyone please help ? A friend has told me that the biometric scanners at Passport Control are only at the North Terminal at LGW. Has anyone been able to use them coming in at the South terminal ?

This page from the LGW website says it is currently only for the North Terminal but there are plans to extend it to the South.

And remember (from my recent experiences) that even if they have them. it doesn't mean that they will be open and / or working

Conversations with the duty manager at Stanstead recently (when I complained) said that they close the biometric gates if /when they're short staffed. Although this sounds crazy, he explained that they need someone hanging round to help people - and that if there's someone hanging round, and they haven't got all of the kiosks manned, people complain!

I actually feel sorry for the Passport watchers (whatever they're called this week) as with their cuts in manpower they lose all ways...

Thank you, Peter. I think I shall have to resign myself to a queue at Passport Control ! Having a new passport I find the IRIS registration booth is closed at South terminal LGW so I can't re-register. My new passport has the biometric bit but they don't have the machine scanners at South Terminal yet.
