Double MR points!

Membership Rewards are too start shortly double MR points on all overseas spends starting from July & including August, nice offer especially if you book your hotels through PTS.

Just a word of warning - if the wording of the offer is "overseas" spend - that will not include domestic transactions on your card for booking overseas travel, unless the transactions are coming direct from the overseas Hotel in a different currency.

I know that Platinum Travel (and other travel agents) sometimes act as the recipient of the pre-payment for the Hotel booking - which they then distribute onto the hotel.

if the transaction is actually made by you to Platinum Travel in your local currency, that will not count.

That is one of the reasons Amex tend to draw a distinction between "double points on travel" (like with the UK Preferred Rewards Gold Card) and "double points on overseas spend"

As long as the hotel does not draw their currency in sterling you will be fine.
Eg: I check out of my FHR in dubai on the 3rd July, they work in Dirhams - so double wammy on my account.

But yes you do need to be careful and not book just anywhere thinking double points are coming your way y)

Yes - you are correct. Sorry, I was referring to pre-paid hotel bookings.

If PTS are just making the reservation - but the Hotel is billing your card on departure, you will be in for an MR points bonanza! )

Are you thinking of the U.S plat card that gives you double miles on all PTS bookings as part of the normal card offerings, its a disgrace both counties cards are not the same, but thats another story.

No was thinking of the Gold card, as I get double points on that I assumed I would on Plat

How have you found out about this offer? And does this include September? August will be good for me, but September better . Otherwise will have to take both cards.

I found out whilst booking transfers from airport to hotel thru PTS, i was informed of the offer by PTS direct and that it is yet to be mailed out, but is just about to be.
July & August is all i was told im afraid.

Since we arrived back from dubai I have received my double MR points.

So for anyone thinking that the promotion didnt happen it did, but funny that amex didnt advertise it? not even when logged in?

The points will be a welcome boost to my Fc account.
