From USA Today Travel section.

American and United both announced new credit cards that earn mileage in the sponsoring line's frequent-flier program. Both add a bunch of additional benefits, as well, and both will be welcome additions to the smorgasbord of card options available to frequent fliers.

The UACO card is a first cut at rationalizing the two programs, and nothing really interesting as such, but the AA card is interesting. It adds 10k Elite Qualifying Miles to the holder's account upon reaching 40k spend, which will get you 20% of the way to Sapphire OW and access to lounges. Not quite as good as the 24TPs you could max on VSs US-based amex, but a pretty good help for the frequent traveler, who will be looking at this far more closely than at the free first bag ......

If someone is a member of the Admiral's Club anyway, this seems like a no brainer.
