However, other than ticket master et al, Any suggested good routes for a sensible tickets that may actually turn up..rather than just feeding a Nigerian bank account ?| and more to the point for a decent price... :0

Any pointers more than welcome..

We've found that the safest option is to book through the theatre itself, preferably by phone. The box office staff know the seating and advise on the best available seats. You won't get ripped off either.

Are you after pre-booking something in particulae? In which case most theatres have their own websites (watch out for the booking fees though). Whether these are at a 'decent' price is open to debate !

If you wanted to take pot-luck then there is the 1/2 price booth in Leicester Square which offers best available tickets at 1/2 price that day + a small admin fee.

This is the booth in the clock tower building in the square itself and not any of the others in the streets around the square.

Some theatre companies sell tickets direct, but you are quite limited really to the likes of ticketmaster, see tickets etc etc, deepening on which show as many of the big West End ones have tie ins.

Do check out theatre monkey for seating advice, it's excellent and the owner of the site is most helpful if you have questions. On their advice we have had some excellent 'cheaper' seats, be use of the so called bad locations, which are nothing of the sort. It can save you a lot of cash especially when some of the top seats are selling for £75+ each.

Agree with Neil here. It's a very useful site. My biggest bugbear with London theatres is not about the view (even in the gods it's usually pretty good) but the width / legroom of the seats.

True, but do check with the theatre if they have a website. Through the usual suspects I was being offered seats at £70 for a show next month; when I checked with the theatre's site I got the same seats for £20. That said for yesterday's show I had £45 seats for £28 from http://www.londontheatredirect.com.

http://www.delfontmackintosh.co.uk is also a reasonable place to start.

Thanks guys... the overall want sounds like a trip to the Lion King.... the only thing I know about this, is walking passed once (on way to the Aldwych Waldolf) and seeing to two "cheetahs" from said production in full costume outside the rear doors having a fag... hilarious!

If your going for Lion King do try and get seats on the centre isle downstairs (i.e. stalls), for reasons I will not disclose in case anyone else is off to see the show soon :)

At the Lyceum, do think row D would be too near the front? i.e. craning neck and little one missing back of stage?
Have been given options on Row D or K (more expensive)?

Theatre Monkey is your friend. Just select the theatre you want and you will find info about the row (and probably the seat) on there, it really is a good tool.

I highly recommend this site for any tickets for London shows. I recently booked a couple of seats during their half price offer and didn't pay any service charges, booking fees or delivery charges either. The tickets arrived three days after I booked them.

Beware of booking anything with Ticketmaster on the basis of a £3.50 charge to print your own tickets at home - it was also £3.50 to collect at the box office! v( v(
