Myself and OH are stopping over in Hong Kong for 3 days on the way to Sydney. I know its not long enough to do all the sights there, but what are anyone's top 4 for recommendations must see/must do highlights in HK?

I'm staying in the new Hotel Icon on Kowloon which fares well on TripAdvisor and is a few minutes from the MTR.

Last time I was there was 2001, so I have been up Victoria peak and one or two markets. I have read Daffodil's thread which helps, but I'm after top attractions.

Thanks in advance.

Martin I love Kowloon as a location as its easy to get about but also has a lot to see and do when wandering about, especially if you venture up to Mongkok. Definitely suggest:

Bird, flower and fish markets
Big Buddha and Po Lin monestry - try the lunch prepared by the monks
Hong Kong skyline and light show
Boat ride across the harbour
Ngong Ping 360 cable car - pay a little extra for the "crystal" car
Peak Tram on HKG island if weather is clear

If you have time a day trip to Macau can be fun - frequent ferries run between HKG and Macau where the casinos, balanced with the old Portuguese streets, churches etc

Have a great time :-)

A fine list Sky, most of which we saw when we went last year y) You could watch the Symphony of Lights but we named it the Sympathy of Lights as it wasn't that great (IMO).
When going from one side to the other be sure to take the Star Ferry for amazing views ^) We were recommended to eat at The American Restaurant (don't worry it is Chinese food!) and we were not disappointed - awesome food and service! You will have to google it as I can't remember the address.

A few more to ponder :D

Enjoy y)

Thanks for all the responses - much appreciated. I'll be sure to fit as many in as time will allow.

I also came across Time magazines top 10 things to do in Hong Kong which others may find useful.

Cheers
