Aer Lingus to DXB

So it looks like Aer Lingus is joining the DXB club.

At 199EUR each way inc. taxes and fees; not bad.

Also they talk about adding other places such as SYD. I pray for the day a LCC goes there.

Since when did Aer Lingus become a LCC?

Has anyone experienced their business class as, I would expect some superb Irish hospitality. Surely?

flown in J on aer lingus once DUB to JFK

its okay, wouldn't like to be paying for it.

Seats aren't great, service nothing to write home about

really below par lounge in dublin and JFK

So it looks like Aer Lingus is joining the DXB club.

I did smile when I heard that announcement yesterday as Dermot Mannion, the new CEO, came to Aer Lingus from the Dubai based Emirates airline. Obviously he knows the market.

Since when did Aer Lingus become a LCC?

It certainly is trying to re-invent itself as a LCC on the short-haul routes and I for one welcome it. In the early 80s the ORK-LHR route came in at a whopping £200 rtn fare. Nowadays it is coming in at a tenth of the price [y]

I've never flown EI long-haul, nor do I intend to.

Lots of chatter about if EK will codeshare with EI on the route. After all it will give EI so many extra routes to the East. Aircraft availablity is proving to be a mjaor problem for EI hence why they didnt announce routes to South Africa or HKG.

Actually, we were down at a "working down under" expo last week
in dublin. Emirates had a stand at the show. We quizzed the Emirates rep about EK flights to Dubai ex DUB. He basically said well it almost happened end 2004, and still was on the cards.

Will be disappointed though if they do codeshare with EI. Basically they would rule that route out for us.

Shows that the people behind EK are human! They were very clever and quick with alot of destinations they have selected- often realising there potential before others but with DUB they are well behind the times.

With QR and GF all saying they would start services to DUB and now with the new announcement on EI and DXB EK havent had the best start. My guess is that they will wait a while- I cant believe that EI will go head to head with EK on the service- EK will just kill them off. After all look at the connections EK has from DXB!

Just an update on likelyhood of flights ex DUB to Dubai with EK

EK had an advertisement for cabin crew in a local belfast
newspaper on friday. Chances are this will be to support
a route out of dublin rather than from belfast.

EK placed similar adverts in the press in Brazil and Argentina about 18months ago and still no services announced BUT i pray they do start the services to DUB!

EI have been advertising in the press over here these last couple of days. Fares Û199 + taxes ex DUB one way

Edited to add: Ooops [:I] mcbenjamin was right. The Û199 fare includes taxes. I really should wear my glasses when reading the small print [:w]

I can't remember exactly, but I don't think it specified where the crew where to be based...
