Transitting in Dubai

Now time for a silly question (probably) but thought I would ask as have never done a trip like this before.

For those of you who replied to my A380 question (thanks very much btw seats sorted oo) ) how long do I need to allow to transit from one emirates flight to another on the way out both sectors are A380, on the way back 777 to Dubai then A380 to LHR.

Also am I through ticketed to my final airport in the far east, I cant seem to find any info on what the process is at Dubai.

Any help/guidance would be much appreciated!

When you check in for the first flight you will be given the tickets for that and the connection, both will also have lounge invitations. Your luggage will be checked in to your final destination.

At Dubai you stay airside, just follow the transit/transferring passenger signs. You go through transit security.

As regards how long you have/need between flights I do not know the flight numbers. You dont need much time.

However, there are changes occurring at Dubai at the moment (a new 380 concourse has just opened) so you might find your arrival gate is close to your departure gate.

The concourse isn't quite finished and not all 380s will use it.

I would check that out first before heading off to the lounge and fizz!

The same thing applies on your return. Although the new concourse is primarily for 380s apparently it also has a couple of 777 gates. So you might get lucky. The new concourse j lounge has direct access to the various planes gated there.

You will find that this information..(departure gates etc) is shown on the ICE entertainment system on your arriving flights.

I can't add to HWVlover's excellent response other than every airport has a minimum connection time and airlines should not book you on connections within that. So if you are through ticketed then EK will have followed this procedure and barring unforeseen circumstances you'll be OK.

As to DXB itself, I've transited there so many times that I'm a little meh about it now - the first time you spend time in the airport it is quite overwhelming in size and things to see. The duty free while extensive is not that good value in my experience so don't expect bargains (although they do have a good cigar room ii) ). You'll be amazed at the rank after rank of EK triple-7s and A380s.

IIRC you're in business so do check out the EK lounges - they are vast and don't be surprised if you see people sleeping everywhere. They're not my favourite lounges (just to big, busy, etc.) but the food and drink offerings are very good.
