Can anyone tell me (in the simple terms ;)) do you get travel insurance with an Amex plat charge card, or does it only apply if you use the card to pay for your flights etc.

many thanks

Comp travel insurance for all card holders on the plat account, you do not need to pay by the card to be covered.

I am glad you answered that, Chris, 'cos I was always under the impression travel had to be booked through Amex.

As a rule booking on the Amex allows "extra benefits" to kick in such as the enhanced flight delay cover.

Yep... this can actually make a big difference in terms of cover when flights are delayed (hundreds of pounds) so if you can it is always worth using the Amex plastic to book.

As an add-on, would you get the full benefits if paying for a reward ticket. ie you only pay the tax via your amex ?

(Or are we delving into the murky world of insurance policys ;))

Welcome to small print - I suggest checking your own policy docs BUT for Centurion...

To get the EXTRA benefits the travel must be paid for on the Amex AND be a paid for ticket. So travelling on points would not get the extra stuff BUT regardless of how paid or what card normal insurance benefits apply.

Can I just clarify...to get all the travel benefits, do you need to book/pay deposit/pay the balance on the AMEX? We have a £3.5K trip with VH booked and would obviously like the miles (despite the 2.5% credit charge from VH) but are not sure it's worth it for the miles and also if you don't get the benefits.

I guess I am asking whether you have to pay for any or all of the above to get the benefits? We have a platinum card, if that makes any difference. [?]

Cheers,
