Greetings from the EK F lounge in Dubai. :X :X

I have a 7 hour layover here 8D - There are worse places to be stuck and this lounge does not appear to have an end. It took me 20 minutes to find some other passengers and in every area I approached, a member of staff appeared out of the solid mahogany woodwork to offer me a drink, something to eat, a cigar, directions... These guys really know their stuff and I think have edged the staff of the LHR CH out of the top spot for lounges in my view.

I've just had my first EK First experience on the A380 and as the title says, I had a shower at 40K feet.... I feel refreshed :D

Not sure I can actually do a TR for this journey as thus far I am at a loss for words to quantify the level of service I have received. It is awesome plain and simple - well done EK, you've made Joey speechless y) y) y) y)

I'll no doubt use this time to catch up on V-Flyer posts and TRs I have missed. Apologies for my sporadic appearance on the site lately - I've been working hard so I can take the next month and a bit off travelling around the world.. self employment for ya, no set holiday ii)

Hope y'all have had a good start to the week.

As a TR of the EK lounge at Dubai joey, that works for me! And I'm so envious.

My youngest son, referred to in my TRs as YS, like you a very frequent business flyer, reckons that lounge is the best in the world. And he's regaled us with tales of showering at 40000 feet. Someone has to do it.

Enjoy!

My fear would be the sudden clearer turbulence where the aircraft drops without warning. Anyone who reads the Avistion Herald will have seen the pictures of what can happen (on one a passenger without a seat belt head went through the overhead bin) so imagine being naked in a shower. No you wouldn't get me in get shower.

I too couldn't fault the service in F with EK on the 380 :D .
Having a shower ( mine was only at about 37,000ft ) was just a bit surreal too :D .
Have a great holiday.

I too sampled EK F for the first time last week, albeit just for the short hop from HKG to BKK.

The F cabin in the A380 was indeed mind blowing and the IFE and on board bar blow VS out of the water. But I wasn't impressed by being informed at the gate that my seat had been changed, with no explanation as to why, and I was disappointed that my choice of drink on board - the advertised mojito - wasn't available (no lime, apparently). Maybe they were having an off day but I expected better from what's widely thought of as one of the best products in the sky.

While I agree with you about the bar, I'm afraid I don't with regard to the IFE. For starters, EK has such a wide market that there are so many foreign films which ultimately reduces the number of English-speaking films and the television programmes are all American. In addition they are so heavily edited as to be ludicrous - for example a five second glimpse of a man's bare bum in Mama Mia was edited out ?| :0 ii) I found it difficult to find anything to watch. Mind you, the cameras for take-off and landing are great. y)

First of all I've had to sit down all discombobulated because Joey is speechless. Perhaps some Malbec or other libations will cure that. ):

I've heard about these shower thingies in the sky and have visions of pax streaking through the premium cabins under the influence...:w

I hope you enjoy your time in the lounge, your flight, and another shower if you so decide. And certainly enjoy your next few weeks of travel buddy. :)

Cheers guys and dolls ;)

Thus far everything has been superb. The flight between DXB and SIN was quiet and service was obviously tailored to the night flight - we did leave DXB at 315am after all. That being said, on the rare occasion people were to push the service button a member of CC was there in a matter of seconds y)

I had a few too many in the lounge so mostly enjoyed the bed mode, then had another shower this time at 39k feet n( I felt like asking the pilot to climb another 1000 feet for the 5 mins time allowed in the shower. Think he would have obliged? :P

EK really have done well with their F product. The other carriers that offer international First have a lot to live up to in my eyes now.

I am still at a loss for words on this whole experience, so a trip report will probably not emerge... we'll see though.

Right, back to afternoon tea in the Valley Wing lounge at the Shangri-La Singapore. Hope everyone has a great day 8D

Hey Joey
Fantastic!
Me and the missus have only experience Y on EK (honeymoon as well:-() and while I thought it was great we werent impressed by the quite frequent and really noisy announcements which meant having to remove headphones each time.
I though would really like to try EK F one day.
Hope you are having a really relaxing break.

Now Joey, did the lounge staff actually emerge from the woodwork or materialise out of thin air?

I agree with Joey - when you get a good crew in EK F, the service is absolutely spot-on. The shower at 40,000ft is a bit odd too.

EK do have some "duff" crew in the premium cabins. My return DXB-MAN in September was a disgrace in terms of service. (I did a TR),

Enjoy Singapore.

Joey

If you do file TR, I don't require 'too much information' about the showering events; I would, however, like to know if there is a call button to summon a member of the crew to appear out of thin air or, more probably, from behind the towel rack, to assist with those hard to reach places like the middle of your back?

Have fun in Singapore; go and have Tiffin at Raffles (avoid having breakfast, beforehand).
