Granted this article is lifted from the Daily Mail - yep, a moment of weakness over lunch - and as such the writing is not the best in the world and the comments are full of Hansel and Gretel fans (give some of them a read :o) )

Goodie bags to placate passengers

If any parents travelling with infants on my next flight are reading, I really could do with a pair of the Bose QuietComfort® 20i Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones to block out the screams of your child :P

It is rather creative and I may consider a similar action the next time I'm planning on going on a whisky walk of the plane oo)

This one is new.... only happened last week. The one you are referring to happened in 2012, like the article says :P

Regardless, it's quite a fun way to calm the plane and I wonder if acts like this happen far more frequently than makes the news.
