Qatar has fascinated me for a while now. I've seen their J fares to the far east significantly undercut BA and VS for some time, and when I did finally try them for the first time (on a 787 from DOH-JNB), I was very impressed indeed. The wine quality in the DOH lounge was exceptional too y)

And now I'm also using then for a family jaunt to DXB at little over 300 quid each in economy, whereas VS wanted 870 out of me on the same dates :0 , and for that, I can cope with an hour and a half's transfer.

With their membership of OW, I was fully expecting prices to go up, but it doesn't seem to have happened. Add to that now the level of innovation and investment they seem to be putting into hard product development, and I'm left asking myself... how are they making any money... ?| Or is the model one of gaining market share at all costs right now?

Anyway, we'll see what their Y product is like, but I note the 32 inches of seat pitch versus VS's 31 (and as my dear wife says, every inch counts :| ), so I'm faintly optimstic.

If only they would introduce a PE product... but that doesn't seem to be a priority for the gulf carriers from what I can see...

Fair point, although as someone that's spent 18 years workig in banking, I guess I'm probably not the best judge of dodgy employment activities... :?

:) Though when I did my stint in banking in the 90s they were surprisingly paternalistic and caring. I have spent the past 7 years on projects at my 90's employer's parent company and how things have changed...
