According to press release, regional servcies will become 1 class and you have to buy food on board! I suppose it helped Aer Lingus but it seems odd that this will leave BA with very different levels of service, but hey ho!

No that isnt quite correct-
this is only happneing to services operatied by BA Citiexpress- so regional routes from BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI and GLA plus Southampton.

Reason for doing it is that Citiexpress makes a massive loss for BA so much so that BA had contemplated pulling it completly. It is being brought around to make them more like Flybe etc who are currently stealing alot of BA pax. It makes sense really- a number of carriers have done it and it has worked for them.
