Uninformed person question alert. If older style UK driver's licenses do not have a photo, how would you prove your identity say when a cashier asks for proof when using a credit card, beside a passport?

The old pink one's baffled the door guys at a lot of Vegas clubs for a year or so,before I came over a friend "lost" his driver license somewhere,I put it to good use getting into clubs.

The old law used to be a valid goverment ID,it is now a valid goverment picture id.

Now fake credit cards I have seen a few of, there were constant reminders of cards 'designs' to watch out for when I worked at Selfridges.

Shame the people making them never worked out which issuer to clone as one certain one has a very high floor limit in comparison to other cards in most merchants.

Thanks,
Richard

All Credit cards (and debit cards) contain a UV-reactive logo. Hold it under a black light, and it beams a logo at you.

All in big writing:

Visa = VS
Mastercard = MC
American Express = AMEX
Maestro = switch/ms logo

etc...

I noticed it in a strip club once... ;)[:I]

N/p - like I say, you're very unlikely to be asked for ID here when puchasing with your credit/debit card - now, purchasing cigarettes or alcohol with your babyface.....;):D

Not a credit/debit card, but entering Harrah's in N'awlins last year, the photocard bit of my driving licence was put under u/v - showed some very interesting crowns & stuff :)

Cheers

Start of political rant....:)
Lets just hope the ID card never materialises......They would be of no use whatsoever and are just a way for the powers that be - of all parties - to convince themselves that they are acting in the best interests of the country..... Still waiting to hear one 'valid' reason as to the need for them from Mr Blair (and I'm a leftie) [:w]

I know this is off the topic of driving licences but why do I (a woman of my mature years) have to show photo ID to get in a bar? This happens all the time in CA and one time they wouldn't accept a British passport without getting the manager, at which point we left...can't be bothered...

I passed second time, first time I pulled out in front of a bread van who had to slow down. I couldn't see because of parked cars so I just thought 'right I'm off' but didn't put my foot down enough. Bit harsh I thought but...

Just to answer your question Shaz.

One thing the powers that be out here are very prone to doing is sending out people who look over 21 but are under and also the reverse.

Now if the bar or store is caught selling booze or cigrettes to someone under age the bar or store gets fined and we are not talking small change,the fines in NV start at $10k.

Now here's where it starts to get interesting.The bar or store gets money from the suppliers in the form of add money (read bribe) to carry their stock,however in the case of smokes the big tobacco have agreed with the states to withhold this money from any bar or store serving or selling to under age people.

So what happens is the bar or store get's busted once,$10k fine + say $5k withheld by say marlboro.The owners do not want to get busted again and lose more money or even worse their buissnes licence which can happen if they get busted enough.So they tell the employee's,card anyone who looks under 40,this means everyone and their uncles is getting carded for everything.

I know a bit long winded,but I hope it sheds some light on the subject for you.

Surely the new Driving License is an ID card in disguise[?] I still have the old pink! style (I passed the second time after having to do a real! emergency stop when a lady of mature age walked out in front of me) but I am increasingly getting advised to obtain the new style to save me carrying my passport all the time on Hol. Mind you the pink ones do make an interesting talking point when you meet some of the 'good Ol Boys' from downtown Jonesboro Arkansas " where's the picture....." and it did get me off of a speeding fine way back in the early 80's in Miami, when the cop tried to work out what exactly it was - He said I was the first Brit he'd had to pull over. I think I had the old green style back then..... (I am a gentleman of the older persuasion)[:I]
