Hi all

Has anyone ever used the $20 trick at the Bellagio successfully?

For those of you who don't know, the $20 trick is where you tip the front desk $20 at check in to get a room upgrade (Wynn and Bellagio normally is $50 to bribe the front desk)

Many thanks
Marco

Never tried that trick but did get a double upgrade at the Wynn last month.

Started out with a Tower Suite room, booked online. Before leaving the UK checked the rates again and found we could get an Executive suite for less than our current room rate. Rang the hotel and changed the booking or so we thought.

When we checked in the staff were falling over themselves to help us and kept asking who we knew at the hotel as they had never seen a room go for the rate we had secured.

Anyway got into the room to find we had been upgraded again into a Parlour Suite for $300 per night, wonderful. 25th floor, floor to ceiling windows, walk in closet, the works

Definately recommend the Wynn, they just need a few more casino floor bars and it would be perfect.

Tried this trick 2 years ago at the Treasure Island (part of same group)- I paid it over when checking in and got a thank you. That was it. I think it used to work years ago but depends really on the check in clerk. will be there 21st March ourselves and staying at Wynn

cheers

The Wynn is great.

Make sure you sit outside by the pool for breakfast, even in january it was lovely and sunny. Also the terrace outside the Parasol Down bar is nice spot for a drink or two.

The Wheel of Fortune Machines in the Wynn certainly paid out for us this year, between two people we took over $1000 out in an evening, mind you we did put $100 bills in but only a max of $200 each so it worked out really well for us.

Hope you have a great stay.

LOL, Oh how I read this thread with interest. You know I am sure that there are low paid hotel check-in staff that start these rumours and see just how extra 'income' they make. Now I have no doubt that backhanders work in certain circumstances, but I have never heard of a guarenteed backhand scheme like you have mentioned or even a la premise of 'Cable Guy'.

At the stratosphere I tried this. Great you guy called Ted Roosevelt on the desk, really friendly, and he managed to upgrade me 2 levels. As I recall his social number was H568 435 670A.

No management were around at the time.

Let me know how you get on sacking him Jetwet.;)

Just to be serious for a second guys.

The hotel look's at this as loss of revenue,if you take a tip then move a person from say a regular room,to say a suite and then run out of suites, the hotel will lose revenue, which is considered theft and therefore a termination offence.

Does it happen,of course it does,is it a good idea, well for the person checking in,if they can get a better romm then sure, but as a clerk no it's not.

Also I should point out that the desk clerks are paid a commission if they "talk" a customer into upgrading from a regular room to a suite.

When my ex-wife was VP hotel operations for Mirage Resorts, now MGM Mirage the commisions started out at $20 and went up to $100.

Also if you called their reservation system and booked a suite the person taking the booking would also get a commission.
