Passenger calls the Police

Quite amusing, held against one's will that is! On the one hand and damn frustrating for people and costly on the airline. But hey, people power!

Well I take it all back after reading the Sunday Times today:

"systemic" problems with maintenance
"ineffective supervision of maintenance ... allowed working practices to develop that had compromised the level of airworthiness"
problems may be "widespread within the organisation"

The comments of the Air Accident Investigation Branch and not the reporters after they investigated a number of incidents including a door ripped off a 777 at 6,000 ft that gouged the fuselage, fuel gushing out of a tank after take off, a 737 missing wing panels after take off and more.

It's pretty damning stuff, at least alleviated by the fact that these incidents occurred in 2003/4 and BA say they accept all the recommendations and have taken action.

Those people should be grateful that they weren't held on board an amtrak train for 18 hours, like dozens of people were yesterday.
