That doesn't sound good. Maybe Apple hasn't got the details set into their system to accept the (presumably new) BIN range of cards for the VS Amex to recognise them as UK cards.

Might mean a call to Apple, rather than MBNA though... [:?]

It's possible to email them about it at the bottom of this form. [y]

As anyone else had problems upgrading their card to the Amex one, I called the freephone number only to be told that I had to reapply for a new card etc, and was put through to new applications. I put the phone down as I dont want a new card, not sure what to do now, MBNA still havent actually told me that I have to convert my card anyway, all seems rather poor really.

Gavin,

Do you have the Flying Club Mastercard, or the "regular" Virgin Mastercard? That makes all the difference.

Flying Club MC = miles go straight to your account.
Virgin MC = "members shop points" can be converted to miles in your account.

I've got the flying club card, I got a feeling that the person I spoke to did not know what she was on about, even if she did have a lovely Irish accent! So I just called them back and got through to Chester, now apprently my details are on some sort of "spreadsheet" and I can expect my new card in 5-6 weeks[:(!]

Still not sure why its not straight forward like the rest of you![V]

5-6 WEEKS? Umm... doesn't the bonus miles promotion end around that time? [:0]

Gavin

Welcome to my world;)

I've had no luck at all in trying to upgrade[:#] ( There are a few of my posts in this thread detailing my problems ).

Luckily I have a very helpful V-Flyer member helping me with my problem.[oo]

I am now waiting for some feedback from MBNA. I'll let you know the result.

Good Luck

DD

EDIT : Actually after looking at your profile it may be an Anti South Wales Conspiracy[:0] Prehaps Amex are only converting those in affluent areas[}:)]

Another refusal of card yesterday - Soho Spice in wardour Street. It refused Mr C's, then refused mine as well. I asked if they accept Amex and they apparently do, but it wasn't accepting either of our cards....[:?]

After successfully changing my 1-1 miles card[y] I am trying to justify the £115 yearly fee for changing my 2-1 card[:?]
The question is; my MasterCard yearly fee is due in September, if I decide to keep the MasterCard to the bitter end (as I understand it December) do I have to pay the full £80 annual fee just for 3 months double miles?

Sorry if this has been answered before but this thread is now 32 pages long and I can't possibly read it all.

I used my Amex White Card for the first time today. How long does it take for the 3000 bonus miles to reach my FC account?

Thank you.

BTW...I have a new picture in my profile which is perfect. [:o)]

I spoke to them today (black card), and it takes 30 days from the date of the first transaction.

Isn't that 6,000 miles if you already had a mastercard? There's also a thread on this card bit that suggests miles will be slower than that in being credited.

As I explained above, I actually spoke to them regarding miles credit lead time. Again, from the horse's mouth so to speak, the 6,000 miles (or 3,000 for the white card) should get credited 30 days after the first transaction on the card. I already have a non-VS MBNA Visa but this doesn't affect the VS AMEX card in any way (well apart from them asking me to split the unused credit limit between the two [ii]).

Ah, hang on, just scrolled back right to the beginning - it's 3,000 miles for the white card or 5,000 if you're converting AND your 1st purchase is before 15th September....

I have now given up all hope with MBNA, decided to call them again today as i just dont trust the information given to me. Today they told me I am not entitled to the Amex card, despite being told I was "upgraded" yesterday, as there was no flag on my account, asked when I would be and he said he did not know, but I can carry on with my Mastercard even after it stops earning points! nice.

I think I will now cut it up, I am fed up of MBNA, and apply for the BAA worldpoints card with HBOS, least that way I can still earn miles and keep my mastercard, and not have to deal with that dam American bank.

32 Pages!!!!! Ouch. This is an emotive subject.

I just got a batch of mail sent on to me, one of them being the invite to change my mastercard to amex. but it only has an 0800 phone number on it, and I'm not in the UK currently, and won't be until september (too late to get the bonus miles I think!!!!)
Does anyone know of a regular number I can call to get through to them and change it?

My daughter's university doesn't take Amex, my oil supplier doesn't take Amex, Pipex ISP doesn't take Amex, Onetel (Talk Talk) doesn't take Amex etc. etc. so I need to find a good Mastercard to replace the MBNA Amex in due course and to do some comparisons between various cards. So is there a chart anywhere which shows the amended redemption miles required for free tickets for all routes? I am sure that there used to be one but I can't find it now and I don't want to put in every route into the Virgin spending miles web page thingy.
Thanks in advance.

Just tried to use my new card for the first time (didn't work online over weekend so used the old mastercrd details)

At Tesco they swipe the card and it came up 'pin number declined' after a two minute wait even though I hadn't put one in. She called the supervisor who swiped it and was told that had no pin so had to sign a piece of paper. She said that this was the only time that they will do this as all UK cards need PIN so she need photo ID

Rang MBNA and they say that there's nothing wrong and all should be working. Anyone else had similar problems?

Ade-I've had the card not work/declined in the tesco petrol station (grrr)but not in the main tesco store(yet).

Ade - have you changed your PIN since you recieved it on the old Mastercard? Thats the only reason i can think of, seeing as how everyone here has the same PIN from the MC for their new AmEx

Otherwise i guess you need to get MBNA to re-issue your PIN so you can check it - i think you can do it online actually if you are registered

Thanks,
Sarah

My PIN didn't work in my local Argos store. After 3 attempts, I expected the card to be voided but when the young lady tried again, her screen pop-up invited me to sign for the goods [:p] This, as I say after inputting the PIN 3 times accompanied by increasingly loud mutterings about the sorry state of the Argos equipment etc. Only when I got my purchase home (nearly 500 quids worth) did I realise that I had been trying to input the present Mrs Treelo's PIN instead of mine [:I] Doesn't say much for MBNA security though if it lets the wrong PIN be input and then invites a signature

No have not changed the pin and me and the boyfriend have the same pin (which is correct - we checked the letters sent out), plus the pin was declined before I even inputed any number????
