Ok we are doing Florida in April/May.
Flying to MCO and driving down East coast to the Keys and back uo the West coast before flying back from MCO.
We plan to stay a couple of days at Key West.
Just been looking at Dry Tortugas as a day trip from Key West.

Has anybody been and is it worth the 2 hour boat ride?.
Any other tips for our holiday will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks in advance Tim.

Are in interested in American History? There is not a lot there. It is called Dry Totugas because it is Dry (no drinking water) and the amount of Turtles found here. There is a fort and not a lot else. If you like to find out about american history and are intested in pirate stories take the trip. If its rough and you have a small boat it is not a particularly pleasent trip. If it is calm and warm it is lovely.

Visited here in 2002. Trip out on the hydrofoil was not too arduous but conditions were benign. History of the place is interesting but not extensive. The other main activity is snorkelling from the shore. Saw plenty of fish but our day was overcast so the water was dull and the pictures didn't come out too well.

If you are only staying in Key West for 2 days then I wouldn't use up one of them visiting the Dry Tortugas.

Have to agree with the comments - if you like being on the water take a half day sailing trip especially at sunset. Otherwise there are many more interesting things to do in Key West and a whole day out will mean you'll miss some of the essential flavour of the place. All opinions and preference of course - I like to go snorkelling and diving and some of the trips to the reefs are better than the Tortugas ... if you're desperate to see the Tortugas and money is good then you could take a seaplane.

Enjoy your trip though, it'll be fabulous, the weather should be around 80-84F and a little humid but not unbearable. The nights 75F+ ... possibility of a little rain but usually dry. Have been end-April for the last eight years so if you want any tips please do ask.
