Hi,

Has anyone flown BMI Premium Economy class? How does it compare to the VS PE package? Off to Vegas and wondering if worth going from MCR intead of the long trip to LGW?

Any info would be appreciated

Neil:)

Sorry again, Neil. [:I][:I]

Putting my sensible (ish) head back on. I have to say that the whole mood of the BMI forum over at Flyertalk, has been very down for months now, and I haven't seen many upbeat posts for ages.

There are a couple of threads about the Economy Plus class here and here, that might give you some pointers.

Cheers Nick,

Thanks for the links - much rather fly VS but 5 hour drive or 1hr 30min drive is a big difference![n]

I've not flown BMI, however I do know that PE on BMI does not have wider seats (like VS has) only the bigger seat pitch.

Also BMI seem to be switching between A330's and 767's on some routes. The 767 does not have a PE section, so make sure you're on a A330 if you want to fly PE.

The bigger seats would sway me to flying VS personally....

Thanks Richard,

Just read the links Nottingham Nick gave me, and they don't make me want to fly BMI - loved my Virgin experiences so far, so think I will have to cope with the drive to LGW

Us northerners :D:D always have the dilemma that LHR and LGW are great airports, but in the wrong part of the country. ;)[:o)]

A lot of northern based V-Flyers, myself included, tend to travel down the night before, and stay in a nice hotel. You can make that part of the trip. [8D]

Now I'm probably not a good one to offer comment but I would rather do the drive and take VS. I flew BMI Business from MAN to LAS, and was not impresed to be honest. It was very much an early 90's offering, only the food was up to par.

I did walk back and take a look at the PE offering and it didn't look great, only marginally better than Economy.

Thanks,
Richard

Nick - did that before our recent NYC (JFK!!) trip from LHR, was a really good start to the holiday, have also stayed at LGW when goin to Egypt a few years ago - do you know if its worth flying down from somewhere like Leeds Bradford, or even if they do an internal flight like that?

I've flown in both BMI & VS PE and trust me, BMI can;t get near the VS offering.

As for internal flights from LBA, you can only get the LHR via BMI, BA used operate a LGW flight (which was a godsend for us) but they canned it a couple of years back :(

So looks like a long drive then - never mind, the going part is fun, its the drive home after the 10hr flight that isn't so appealing (sorry if spellin wrong!)

Interesting that Richard Mannion singled out the BMI food for phrase above. My Dad (recently retired) flew a hell of a lot & racked up miles galore & Gold / Platinum Frequent Flyer status for life in most of the FF programs that allow this. (He was not a FC member, as he is in the SQ FF scheme, so the odd time he flew VS, he picked up the miles via SQ).

The one comment he will make about all airline food is the best airline meal he has ever had, was in BMI Business from Manchester to Chicago. Think he even wrote to Sir Michael Bishop (BMI Chairman) about the meal too, it was that good.
