Good Seats on South African Airways 340-600

Could you please help me with selecting 2 seats on the A340-600?.

I understand that SAA use this type of plane on the London – Cape Town Route. It will be Economy / Business each way & I need two seats together. Will there be boxes under the seats that restrict the legroom and if so how obstructive are they. I would like to avoid these seats if possible. One last question, once I have made my seat selection how do I request them?

Flying with them to JNB on Saturday. I called Reservations and pre-assigned my seat as I couldn't get my PNR to show on line.

Declan M8 - have a nice holiday. are you on a A340-600? If it is what seats did you go for and any reason?

Unfortunately not holidy. Week in JNB at Futurex and then a week in CPT training 10 people [:(]. I'm flying in a 747 I'm afraid so can't comment on the 340 seats... have you tried seatguru.com?

Well you could check flysaa for the config and compare to VS. If VS is similar use the ratings here?

On the A346s, SAA have lie-flat seats. The 744s are the only aircraft with first and they are used predominantly on routes to LHR.
They also have AVOD on the A346s but I'm not too sure about the 744s. My experiences with them have been pretty good and they are consistenly voted as the best airline in africa - although it has to be said that the only real competition is from Kenya Airways and possibly VK. Although I'm sure others might add a couple to this list;)

The 744s are also fitted with AVOD, and the inflight service isn't bad, even down the back, but the Y seat pitch is dire considering the long flight time (ANZ still rocks in this area), unless you're lucky enough to bag a seat upstairs in the bubble (yes, the SAA bubble is Y) where the seat pitch is 34"-35" instead of ~31" (with some real "losers").

Yup! My first flight ever in the 747 bubble was in Y on a flight to JNB [y]

It should be 340-600 to Cape Town. I am almost certain that they use this on this route, can anyone confirm this please?.

I had a look on Expedia and a 340-600 was showing both ways. This would be great as economy has a 33Ó pitch and I get F.C miles [y]

I know planes can change last minute and as I defiantly donÕt want to be on a 747 with a 31Ó pitch[n] would you fly with B.A it would be WT+ one way and Club.

Would love to go with VAA but refuse to fly on a A340-300

Does anyone know if SAA and VAA seat map match up.

The 220 and 221 are 340-600s - we flew them last year but in F. They're configed 2-4-2 in Y. TR here.
