LGA to JFK

What is the best way to get from LGA to JFK (and how long does it take and at what cost)? I'm having trouble finding reasonable flights to JFK and am considering flying into LGA instead. We'll have our 9 year-old with us, so the easier the better. We'll probably get in mid-afternoon and return to JFK from LHR at around 9pm. Thanks in advance!

Taxi is convenient and can be quick depending on the traffic ... I've done this many times and find the taxi to be the best in terms of speed and low hassle.

Glad I found this topic, I need to go to Detroit for a wedding and didn't fancy flying any of the US airlines trans-atlantic. Will do VS to JFK and AA from LGA-DTW and return.
