Got my miles last month for a combination of the new black Amex card and the old Mastercard, including the 10k bonus :D

This month, however, mu statement says I earned 14,333 miles (bought a trip to Dubai on VS) and my FC membership has just been credited with........ 350 miles!!!![:0]

Is this likely to be leftovers from the Mastercard, and the Amex stuff will be credited in a day or so, or should I go mental on the phone to FC/MBNA (which?) today?[:?]

Hiya

If its from the Mastercard, it will appear on your VS statement online as 'Virgin Credit Card Mileage (X miles per £1 spent)' and if its the AmEx it will appear as 'VAA Credit Card Spend'

It is likely to be the remainder on your Mastercard i would have thought, as MBNA were trying to do a credit for outstanding miles for all their members this month. I fortunately got my credit so am no longer owed any miles :D.

Its probably best to keep tabs on your expenditure and tally them off against miles credited until they all catch up with you.

Thanks,
Sarah

ok, it says Virgin Credit card Milage. Thats good - I hope that means that the VAA card points will be on tomorrow or soon after.

I spoke with MBNA today as I still havent had my miles credited from last month - they said that miles would show on VS FC up to 5 days after the statement date as they are transferred from MBNA to VS once a month around that time

Fingers crossed[:w]

Hi Sarah, looking at the miles I was credited on 1st Aug (ie. the date we all ended up receiving a miles credit titled 'VAA Credit Card Spend') - there's no way my figure could have been derived from AMEX spend alone.

I had only received the card a few days earlier and hardly used it, so my reckoning is that the 1st Aug figure on our statements must include Mastercard spend well[:?]

In my case the 1st Aug figure for 'VAA Credit Card Spend' was over 14K miles which of course is largely made up of the 10K bonus. I had only made a couple of small purchases on AMEX, certainly not enough to rack up another 4K - so do you reckon Mastercard spend must have been included?

Cheers,

James

On the 1st August, i had my 10k miles credited plus additional expenditure on the AmEx and the old Mastercard - but it didnt total my expenditure for the month.

AFAIK, MBNA were trying to credit all expenditure from both cards but seemingly missed the boat on that one for many accounts, including my own.

On 11th August i had a credit of FC miles appear from my Mastercard - all the missing expenditure that didnt get on the new AmEx statement! My bill at the end of this month should be straightforward, just AmEx spend at the new rates, but i'll still check it.

James - i think you were lucky and got all the miles for all your spend on both cards. Easiest thing to do is sit there with Mr Calculator and manually add up your expenditure, round it off, and either times it by x2 or x4 for your cards and see what you *should* have.

You should have hashes (#) on your statement to separate AmEx and Mastercard on your new AmEx bill.

All i can say is that MBNA seem to be finding this a lot tricker than we are! I was dreading calling them to ask after my missing miles but thankfully they seem to be getting there.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah. Like you I had a mileage credit on 11/8 but I couldn't work out how they'd derived that figure. So taking your advice I've taken the entirety of my August statement (which in my case covers 7/7-5/8) and applied the multiplier rules, ie. 2 miles for Mastercard transactions & 4 miles for AMEX. When I compare the grand total with the total of the two mileage credits on my FC account (ie. 1/8 & 11/8) there is only a 1135 discrepency - in my favour:)

I think I'm right in saying that it is never possible to tally up exactly owing to the fact that for some reason the last few transactions in a statement are not included in the mileage calculation, but get added in the following month. Does anyone know what the cut off is? In other words if, say, your statement date is 7th of month and you have transactions each day up until 7th, which ones won't translate into miles that time round? If we knew this we'd be able to cross-check with confidence as we'd know exactly what the shortfall figure is one month & hence what the catch up figure will be the following month - not knowing exactly what rules they're applying is annoying!

Thanks again,

James

Thats a good point James.

For me, as long as the credited figure is roughly x2 (now x4) the total bill, i am happy and wont bother chasing. Last time i queried this 'cut-off point' with MBNA they didn't seem to know the physics behind it either, they were just adamant that expenditure that didnt make it onto that bill would be on the next bill as the mileage calculator was automated. At one point with my Mastercard i got rather anal about it and sat there working it out to the mile and querying it each month but then i decided i had better things to do with my time [:I]

Still, if you potentially have a credit in your favour, that a [y]

Thanks,
Sarah

Gary, did you get a credit on the 1st August? That is when it should have been credited, so if not i would give them a call - otherwise i imagine they would make you wait until 1st September

Thanks,
Sarah

That makes sense now! [:I]

I have the following items on the statement:
14 Jul 2006 Virgin Credit Card Mileage (2 miles per £1 spent) 962 0
25 Jul 2006 Radisson SAS Hotel London Stansted Airport 1,000 0
01 Aug 2006 VAA Credit Card Spend 12,454 0
03 Aug 2006 American Express, Membership Miles Transfer 1,000 0
11 Aug 2006 Virgin Credit Card Mileage (2 miles per £1 spent) 317 0

So it looks like I'll get the full 14k VAA miles next week.

Doh!!! I feel a tad foolish now!

Yep i think thats it, you got your statement early and it shows the miles to be credited on the 1st September - but dont hold me to it, just double-check your account next month to make sure the miles hit.

Thanks,
Sarah

I'm still awaiting my statement to close off, has yours closed yet? I'm expecting it to be tomorrow, i was told 'beginning of the week' by MBNA last Friday. I would wait until you are definately in your next billing cycle before calling MBNA as miles are not usually credited anyway until this happens. I feel your pain Gaz, i want my miles for last month too!

Thanks,
Sarah

Same here Sarah

No miles for last month either yet. Mind you I did change by billing date last month and surprisingly the new billing cycle was applied to last months statement.

My new due-by date was 30th Aug and my billing date the 8th of the month so dont think my miles will appear until at least the 8th this month.

Ah, i changed my billing date too, to a few days into the beginning of the month. I (perhaps foolishly) didnt specify a date though.

I got miles for last month though ... hmmm ... all is not well on Planet MBNA by the sounds of things.

Thanks,
Sarah

My statement went through on the 28th as per usual. Miles normally credited on the 1st or 2nd at latest. Still waiting this month though....[:?]

I'm still waiting for this month's miles also... I am also hoping that MBNA will correct the [assumed] error from last month where the statement said I'd earned 210.44 Flying Club miles - which never made it to my FC account, presumably because FC are not used to dealing with fractions of miles?!

I hope it does sort itself out, as I somehow think the phone call to MBNA to get things sorted would be a "bang head against the wall" experience.

Yes, same here, which means the only issue I have now is only getting 2 miles per pound with VH.

Just checked my statement AGAIN - this is becoming a daily chore.

Another 11K miles added, that three times now 1st Aug, 11 Aug and today. Also states 'your card number has changed, a new one will be sent to you'.

Gets more confusing by the minute.

Today's addition looks like a clear up on missing miles from July's spend billed in August from whatI can see, as the amount exactly equals the shortfall from August that was missed off. Am yet to see miles for August spend billed September hit the statement.

Well, I appear to have got the correct number of miles this month........no option on the VA website anymore to check my tier points, statement etc though, but I did know how many I had yesterday.
