BA are doing a deal, buy a J class return ticket ex UK and get an upgrade to first class one way. Upgrade is booked in A class and runs from 10sept to 10dec.

Think they did same thing about this time last year.

Ooops, we seem to have two fairly close threads going on. See here

Maybe we should use the other one, and rename it BA Autumn offers so that it covers all the little things they are doing at the moment (mod)

It's a rubbish deal - it requires the purchase of expensive J tickets, when discounted First tickets are cheaper.

Just looking at JFK on BA by way of example I cant see how that is the case....

The J/A deal is £4078 plus tax - with no advance booking.

The A class APEX fare is £4135 plus tax - but requires 42 days advance purchase. Add in the restrictions as well, not changeable, penalties if cancelled.

The fares are close I will agree but the BA published discounted F fare is not cheaper.

Apex A fare is First in both directions. [:p]

If you go back to the BA booking engine, and put in a Club return to JFK, and then upgrade one sector to First, it comes out at £3020 +tax.. a grand cheaper than this alleged 'special offer'.

Very true. I guess its all academic in the end. Whats more important is how VS responds - but I am of the opinion that they can't unless we start seeing a reduction in UC fares, and with the bean counters [n] around I can't see that happening. [:#]

I wonder - how about fly W get and get a free upgrade to J??? Now that would give the bean counters a heart attack!!! [:o)]

Not likely:

Rreturn, to/from SFO,
WW1R (PE - Full ish) = £2112 +
WR (PE - Full) = £3876 +
ZLAP (UC - Discounted) = £2429 +
DLAP (UC - Discounted + Limo) = £3329 +

The deal is very much horses for courses and depends on what type of ticket you'd normally buy. For personal travel it's not good value.

If it was me wanting to fly FIRST and I had fixed dates for travel I wouldn't use this offer, as I wouldn't be changing the dates. Interestingly the earning for the sector you upgrade from Club World earns the higher FIRST mileage.

If it was for business requiring full flexibility, then this is a nice bonus. I don't remember VS making any similar offer ( nothing above Upper anyway! ) on previous times BA have run this promotion, so don't expect any response.

Thanks,

David.
