My friend has just recently purchased a return ticket (in Q class) with EK to fly LHR-DXB-BKK / CGK-DXB-LGW. He is not a frequent flyer and has no idea which FFP to credit these flights to. He just booked the cheapest ticket which happened to be EK.

I had a look at EK's Skywards and also UA Mileage Plus but really don't know which FFP to recommend to him. He will earn close to 14,000 miles for these flights. Can anyone tell me which is the 'more suitable' FFP for him, as an infrequent flyer? Are there any other FFPs to consider?

My mate took a trip in EK Y last year stopping off at DXB for the world cup racing. Then onto NZ and back home without a stop over, the trip earned him EK silver status. This year on the same trip he can get in the lounges and check-in at J counters. The year after the trip should be free on miles. With only this one long haul trip per year Skywards works for him.

EK currently have a bonus miles promotion (2,500 for Y class) for first-time flyers. Looks like Skywards it is then. I'll recommend it to my friend. I did tell him to fly Star Alliance (he's bmi blue) but he didn't listen to me.

It was my mates first flight with EK after he had joined skywards. He has done the same trip for the last 3 years and earnt nothing until I told him about FF programmes[:0]Maybe it was that bonus that tipped him over to silver.
