A few years ago, a BA 777 got stuck at BGI IIRC and had to be pulled out with a local army vehicle.

Yeah, I recall it well although I think it might have been Antigua. It was towards the end of May 2002 just before the Golden Jubilee weekend

The other thing is that Derry airport was closed some weeks ago because of safety concerns and only recently re-opened

It was ANU, they had done repairs to the runway and had laid tarmac which hadnt had a chance to dry completely. I belive the plane in question was taxiing when the incident happened (you have to taxi on the active runway as the taxiway was never completed there due to, shall we say, mismanagement of funds, by a previous administration.
