Hi
I flew out to Taipei last year, we flew VS LHR-HKG (UC) and then Cathay HKG-TPE (J) and the opposite on return. It all worked well with timings etc. I have to say that even for the short flight on Cathay I was highly impressed and remember feeling that I wished I had made the whole journey with them, mainly because of the onboard comfort and service.

VS was chosen for the first leg simply as the work preferred carrier not based on cost or anything else.

Enjoy Taipei !!

Cheers

Mark

Just taken a couple of shorthaul CX J flights and they are just as good as I remember, don't think you can go wrong with CX.

Many thanks - I was considering them also in F - I would think that would be extremely good as well.

Their new first class cabin has only 9 seats and looks very swish. The Wing and Pier in HKG are among the best lounges in the world and genuinely give the LHR clubhouse a run for its money.Only downside is that CX seems to be cutting back on the quality of the booze and food on some of the shorter F routes. My experience on the short J service (2hours) when compared to BA CE was a revelation. CX have AVOD, give out menus and wine lists(better than the ones BA dish out in First),serve a full 3 course meal, address you by name and the Chief purser even came round to welcome us as OW emerald members.[y]

I will have the full trip report fopr you (inc pictures) in 4 weeks. I have been reading up on other furums regarding the new J seating and its not really getting very good "press" from other passangers. Is this maybe they just do not like the "herringbone" layout? We are booked on the aircraft with the new J (upstairs) on the way out and the new F on the way back. Does anybody know how the service / seats etc compare with VS? I have asked the question on other forums with no replies at all.

Look at the CX web site there are decent 3D animations of both new products.Must say I have been recently contemplating CX and I don't like the look of the new J cabin for travel as a couple,F looks passable:D.Service, food and Booze wise I would be amazed if both are not better than VS(and the majority of other airlines you could mention).CX are worth the price of the ticket just to have a look at the Wing and Pier.

Jaguar, Yes I agree that it looks a little more "tight" than VS but I will be travelling with 2 other guys and conversation will be a minimum once on board as they will be trying to get their "monies" worth in booze and movies.(suppose I will be as well) - I just wonder how comfortable they will be compared with VS as I have been lucky enought to go UC now 4 times in the past 3 years and really love the whole experience. I just fancied a change this time and hope I wont be regretting doing same ( It was also easier to book with Cathay as I am heading to Taipei). As for F on the way back that should be as good as anything else we have flown. Looking forward to the business lounges in HK to compare to the VS Club house in Heathrow.

Thanks

Keith

Check out the Long Bar in The Wing near the LHR arrival gates.Your TPE flight will most probably go from a high numbered gate near the Pier.

Well in the Pier at the moment on our way back in F- I will post the full TR for both the outward business and the F return - I must say the Peir certainly gives The Clubhouse a run for its money - different concept but definite up there with the best - Full TR soon , Keith
