So at the moment, you can get an IDC or IEC (Internation Doller/Euro Card) for free:

http://www.americanexpress.com/lacidc/i ... card.shtml

Now looking at the US card. Upsides:

- When I buy something in the US, or in US Dollars there is no ForEx charge which is typically 2.73% on UK based AmEx's
- More interesting, you earn 1 MR point per $ spent, and not per £ yet the transfer ratio to VS stays the same at 1:1.

Downside:
You have to pay your bill in dollars.

So with the exchange rate you end up earning 2 MR points for every pound spent on the card..but have to pay a 2.73% exchange commission..bummer...so say your bill is 1000 pounds...send me the pounds Richard and I will send you the dollars...save you the 2.73% while you still get the 2 MR points...ok

Dave, while that is true of most UK cards, the card Richard is referring to is billed and paid in dollars, so no 2.75% fee to incur.

Thanks,
Sarah
