Flybe - A nice little money making scheme ...

Well Flybe seem to have a nice little money making scheme going for themselves. I had to cancel a flight today and as the ticket is non-refundable I wasn't expecting to get a refund on the flights. However what ticked me off was that even though I'm entitled to the tax back, they have the nerve to charge a 20 Admin Fee - each way in order to refund that tax. Given that the tax is about 43, then it's hardly worth the hassle. Doesn't really seem fair to me [n]

You are right in saying that it is not fair. But is is very common. Most airlines seem to do it [n]

There have been reports of other airlines doing the same thing. IIRC VS charges a GBP25 fee and EasyJet may charge a fee close to the taxes on the ticket.

Either case, most people probably do not know/care that they can get the taxes back as the airline does not pay them. I personally would feel better if the airlines would donate the unused tax 'revenue' to some real charity.

VS do not charge a fee for claiming back taxes if the fare element is non-refundable.

The only other time I've had to cancel a ticket was with Opodo and that was on Air Canada and all the tax was refunded without question. So it was a bit of a surprise to find out that Flybe wanted £40 for the priviledge of refunding me £3!

Last year i cancelled one of four tickets to MCO on VS and i had all the tax refunded and no admin costs, could it be that i was lucky because i had other bookings with VS or have things changed in the lasy 12 months? [:w]
