It looks like I have to head to KL in November and was looking at the most direct route and Malaysian are offer a good deal from London to KL in F. I looked at their website and it looks product and noticed VS are a partner so should get some good miles here.
After that I honestly know nothing about the airline - can anybody give me some gopod information on thier F product?

Many thanks

I have no idea about First on Malaysia Airlines but my mum has been looking at flights in January and according to their website, it seems that the morning departure from Heathrow (MH3) and the evening departure from Kuala Lumpur (MH2)are now being operated by Garuda Indonesia so their First product may be somewhat different.

If this is true does anyone know since when Guruda have been allowed to fly to the EU as I seem to remember that they were blacklisted for a while due to safety concerns?

I've flown business class between LHR and KUL, and KUL to Perth a few times in the last 5 years and have been nothing but impressed. Whilst their business class may of changed over this time, their level of service is wonderful.

I've wondered through 1st on the way out of the 747's and it seemed bright, open and lovely... Again, this has likely been updated.

You won't go wrong flying with them :-)

Ditto Woggledog. I have only flown J on MH but I was certainly very happy, finding the service, food and experience very similar to SQ.

Thanks,
Sarah

The best bit of the service was being woken by a beautiful member of the cabin crew, with a mug of latte somewhere over northern Aus. That in itself was worth the money :-)

Your flight will not be with Garuda - it is the other way around, there is a GA flight number on some flights but it is always operated by MH.

I have travelled on an MH 744 SIN-AKL in F, but it was under SQ crew. For some obscure reason, SQ lease an MH aircraft for this route.

So I can tell you about the MH cabin, but not the service.

The first feeling you get on entering the F cabin is afeeling of airiness and spaciousness that you don't seem to get on many other carriers like BA or QF in the same cabin. This is quite likely due to fewer seats (12 instead of 14 on BA/QF). The window seats aren't herringboned either, so you get four windows to yourself ;-)

Here's a fine view of the cabin (mods feel free to remove if too offensive):

That's what has always been the case as I understand it but why would they then have the operator as Garuda?

Its been about 20 years since I flew MAS F but it was the best service I've ever had in the air.I can also remember flying direct LHR-KL with BA around the same time.In the not too distant past MAS used to offer heli transfers to LHR on a F ticket, don't know if this is still the case.

From the VS website:

Discounted Economy Class mileage* 70% miles flown
Economy Class mileage* 100% miles flown
Discounted Business Class mileage* 125% miles flown
Business Class mileage* 150% miles flown
Discounted First Class mileage* 150% miles flown
First Class mileage* 200% miles flown

You wont get 'full VS miles', you'll get base miles as agreed with the partner.

Thanks,
Sarah

I noticed the same thing on my flight to Sydney in a couple of weeks: on the MH website (booking page) the flight from KUL - SYD is stated as being operated by KLM. However, on the KLM website, the same flight is stated as being operated by MH!

According to the MH e-timetable, the flight is operated by MH. This is further backed up by the KLM e-timetable, which states the flight in question offers F,J,Y classes: as KLM only offer J&Y on their aircraft, this would suggest the aircraft is MH metal.

I guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks... [:D]
