There is speculation that it was an old newspaper article published again by accident that caused this rumour ...

Now that's some mistake!

If nothing else it shows just how sensitive the markets are to airline (perceived?) troubles.

Reported that the Chicago Tribune was at fault.
Shares still down 25% but big recovery from 1c

The story was posted accurately by the Chicago Tribune, back in 2002.
It was the Florida Sun Sentinel newspaper website which reprinted it with todays date on!
