AFAIK, it's 90 days in one visit. Provided you leave on or before the 90 days, you can come back for another 90 days straight afterwards.

Obviously, if you do 90 days, back for one then another 90 day and so on, Immigration are going to be looking at you very carefully to make sure you are not working etc.

Thanks, that would be great. I don't think we will every be there for 90 days at a time, but we are about to book a 5-6 week trip for next September, and I suddenly realised this would take us over the 90 days if that was the total for a 12 month period.

I spent more than 90 days in the US last year on separate trips, and I was working while I was there. However, I am employed in the UK and have a house here. I rarely get asked more than 'What do you do for Sun ?'

If you are living in the US, and only escape for a day or so to renew your Visa Waiver standing, then I think Immigration will be asking questions.

Oh, if only we could live there. No just 2 x 5 and half weeks, and a 3 week trip in a 12 month period, which is very very nice I know.
