Suits you Sir...

Hong Kong calls later this year. Mrs NH,is keen to hunt down a tried & trusted tailor (maybe other than the famous 'Sams').

Has anyone got 1st hand experience & details of a used & recommended outlet?

The only thing that I know is that as soon as you step onto Nathan Road, you'll be offered a 'suit, watch, copy bag' every 30 seconds! [8D]

having battled the PEK silk market, trying to get through the cr5p

I have had suits and shirts from Princeton they are very good, also had suits from these a bit more downmarket but still good suits.

I'd welcome others recommendations too as I have always wanted to get suits made in HKG. Do they measure you or ask you to take along a suit that fits you well? Or even both? Just thinking that I have one suit that I love the cut of and if someone could knock up 5 more in different fabrics/colours then that would be ace.

I took Aer John to Sam's in Nathan Road and the quality and cut were excellent.

Sarah, you get measured up for the suit, which is then tacked together for you to come in for a fitting where adjustments are made. The final product is then made up. We went at about 5pm and at 11am the following morning went back for a fitting. The suit was ready that evening even to the extent that a personalised label with his name on was stitched onto the inside jacket pocket

You could always ask your hotel concierge for help with this, they should know. There are always the adverts in the Visitor magazines that are in the hotel rooms.

I have yet to have item made in Hong Kong but have certainly used an excellent tailor in Seoul and thus would have no hesitiation in using someone such as Sams whose reputation is lengendary.

I choose the cut (traditional English suit) some pinstripe cloth, linings and leave the rest to them following a thorough measure and two fittings some lovely suits appreared the next day. Now when I go back I just call in advance and they have some ready for me - as long as I dont put on any more weight (or loose i(the odd inch or two is sorted out during the final fitting)).

very true, but given the band of global nomads lurking around here, some 1st hand experience always a bonus. [y] However will always be worth an ask on the day..

Isn't nomad another word for gypsy?

Reminds me of the Jimmy Carr line about the Vodafone advert a few years ago, 'Join the world's largest mobile community'. Isn't that the gypsies?
