I know that this is a random question but I am desperate to fly out of London City and I was wondering how this can be acheived most cheaply! I have managed to find BA Cityflyer to Glasgow or Edinburgh for 88 return.
Does anyone know any way of doing it cheaper? Not bothered about destination, aircraft or time on the ground, can even fly back into LHR or LGW if cheaper!

Let me know your thoughts,

Ed

They sound like good prices considering the taxes for LCY.

You should fly into LCY too, to experience the view over Canary Wharf (if coming from the West), the plane 'dropping' onto the runway and being from plane door to outside the terminal in under 5 mins.

These notes are from my days of commuting to Edinburgh once or twice a week, so other routes may vary slightly.

In my experience they usually fly in and out East to West. Flying into LCY, if you sit on the left, you get to view such delights of the Thames Estuary such as the QE2 Bridge and Belmarsh Prison.

Flying out, it's typically a very tight right turn directly after takeoff and you don't get to see much other than Lee Valley to the right: the a/c banks so hard that Canary Wharf is quite some way away to the left, and you're banking sharply, so don't expect to see much at all out of the left.

If you do get lucky and fly in West to East, on landing most of the interesting stuff is dirctly underneath the aircraft. The good views pretty much start and end at Tower Bridge through the right hand side: they fly in from the North and then do a tight left turn over the Westminster/City border. The a/c is lined up by the time it skims almost directly over Canary Wharf, so you don't really get to see much unless you really try hard to crane your neck to have a look (the right hand side ISTR is the better side for viewing).

Cheers, H

Thanks for this, I am playing with dates and deciding whether it's really worth it (I of course think yes but will get in trouble from other half unless I can vaguely justify it!)

I should really study the planes and work out if there is a pattern to their landing. Yesterday was west to east, today it's the opposite. Doesn't make much difference in noise, as I can see the runway from here so I'm quite close, and can almost see people in the windows as the planes land. [;)]
