Gatwick monorail to close for re-furb

Gatwick monorail is to close for re-furbishment in Sept - see here:

The main effect I can see is for VS PAX staying overnight at the Sofitel who will have to hoof it on a bus ([:$]) or stay overnight at the functional Hilton at t'other Terminal.

Calling it a monorail is a bit grand. Its hardly like Walt Disney World's version.

It's more a train with rubber tyres [:D]. But at least it hasn't crashed recently, unlike WDW's equivelent [B)].

Anyone else remember the episode of the Simpsons where they build a monorail and Homer becomes the driver.

Of course it all ends in disaster but there is a catchy song with repeated 'monorail' as the chorus !

Thanks for the heads up Hackneyguy - we will be staying at the Sofitel on 3rd Sept before our flight to SLU the next morning. Really hope the works will not have started by then.
