I have just renewed my passport. My old passport, which has been returned cancelled, has a 10 year B1/B2 visa in it which is less than a year old.

I've been told I can use the visa still to enter the US by presenting both passports. Question is do I need to inform the US Embassy of this before I travel even though I have applied for a new ESTA. If so how is this done.

Why did you apply for an ESTA when you have avalid visa ? And yes it is still valid and you should bring both passports with you when travelling.

I would let the Embassy know that you applied for an ESTA in error - may save a long interogation at the other end.

I agree - if you've got a valid visa - even if it's in a passport that's technically invalid - you DON'T need an ESTA
