Having recently flown into SYD on the VS200 I was well aware (after reading of it on here) of the plastic cutlery being used on flights into Australia for reasons of security as a result of events on 11 Sept 2001.
You can imagine my surprise that after flying Air New Zealand from SYD-AKL and Emirates AKL-MEL in the last week both flights had stainless steel cutlery being used?
Can anyone provide any info on what the score is?
Would be most interested to know.....

Thanks

If memory serves me right the Australian government changed it's position and now allows metal cutlery, this happened maybe 3 months ago.

Of course, the metal is as blunt as Neil's..... Nope can't go there.

I am fairly sure we had metal cutlery on our flight to SYD last August.

I stand to be corrected but the use of plastic wasn't as a result of 9/11 (though that did happen for a while) but due to a couple of incidents on planes where people were attacked with metal cuttlery and the Australian Government imposted a no metal rule.

Thanks for the replies......
We had metal cutlery on the VS200 from LHR-HKI but then plastic from HKI-SYD as my travelling companions remarked on it and I told them what I'd read on here....... :D
If the Australian Govt have changed their stand then I hope VS quickly change their arrangements as their plastic cutlery is horrible to use..... :P

A bit of an update....
On the VS201 home the other day we had metal cutlery on the SYD-HKI leg but plastic on the HKI-LHR journey......ie the opposite to the outward-bound journey.
So IMHO, there doesn't appear to be any firm pattern as to what cutlery they use...........
