Tune Hotels (The Ryanair of hotels) open in London.

Budget Asian hotel brand Tune Hotels has opened its first London property close to Waterloo station, with plans to add 1,500 rooms across 15 London properties by 2017.

They claim top offer '5 start beds at 1 star prices'.

They appear very cheap, but the 'added extras' such as towels (£1.50), a safe (£2), hairdryer (£1), TV with freeview channels (£3 per day or £10 per stay), and wifi internet access (£1.50 per hour or £3 per day), make me think MOL may have written their business plan. 8D

I saw the same email today and I was going to book a night when I get back from Gatwick at about midnight and have to be at Heathrow for 5am.
Went on and had a look and it was £60! Won't be doing that thank you very much.

A couple of months ago they were doing a promotion where you could get a room for a pound, I saw all the teasers to get you excited but somehow completely missed the money shot.

There was a puff piece in the Evenign Standard the otherday.

Apparenrly you get the same type as bed as they use in the Dorchester at less than dorchester prices !

There's also a charge if you're staying more than one night and want your room cleaned on the second day.!

This Trevelodge has recently opened and is just down the road from Waterloo. It is an office block conversion, so should be spick and span inside

They are actually owned by Tony Fernandes who of course started life out working for VS and then moved to be director of finance at Virgin Records. He then went off to form Air Asia (which Virgin have a small holding in) and of course can now be found running the Lotus F1 Team.

Interestingly Tune Group are now sponsoring the FA referees this season (changed from Air Asia).

I once had a discussion with Trading Standards about the expectations of provision in a hotel, after an experience when which I was told that they'd "run out of soap" and would have to buy it from the vending machine. I was told that the rule is somethins along the lines of "the less you pay, the less you should expect" despite my protestations that the lowliest pub / cafe is expected to provide water, soap and towels.

Interestingly the financially rational response to my situation would have been to bite the bullet and stay. I didn't (not least because of the t*rd in the bath), and was prepared to write the money off to experience. That said, I very quickly got a refund from the chain in question when I brought the matters to their attention.
