Hi All,

Someone posted on here that Amex are running an offer that gives Platinum card holders Cathay Pacific Gold membership. I have recently got this card an would like to apply. Does anyone know how I do this as the guy at Amex CS didn't have a clue?!

Thanks,
Ben

They never hav a clue whatever you ask them in my experience.
It is correct that you get MPO gold with plat and MPO diamond with cent.

What I would suggest is that you go online to CX and register for MPO and get a number then AX only have one job to attempt.
You will need to be persistant with AX (each time the agent will probably give you a different answer but don't gave up - eventually you will get it.

You can register online now, so no need to play call centre lottery. It's in the same place as the online form for Hilton and SPG. I didn't register with CX first, and it took 15 days for my card to arrive.

Hi guys. Can I just ask, exactly how I should apply for the cx gold membership? The platinum pack mentions nothing about it in the travel section, and cx was not in the forms I needed to fill.

If we can do it online could u post the web address on here please? As I just double checked the Amex website, there seems to be nothing in relation to cx.

Unless it is a hong king Amex platinum benefit?

Marco Polo Gold = Oneworld Sapphire and therefore business class lounges only. Seat selection yes, as long as you haven't bought the flight with Avios, that seems to cause problems as it gets confused with two numbers in the system.

Ok so I have a question, I already have this cx gold card for some time and I have used it for lounge access and seat selection all on ba of course, however how would it work booking cx flights, I would earn points in cathays program, can I transfer those points back to ba, and does gold mean anything much in cathays eyes, I would would accrue just more points right?

CX gold is good in that you can use the biz lounge/check-in and 72 hours guaranteed seat on ANY FARE (better than VS which is full fare).
Points are non-transferable and they are pretty mean with awarding the points and greedy when it comes to redeeming them - one of the reasons I switched to VS.

Any idea if Hilton, SPG and CX gold benefits are for the main cardholder only or can supplementary cardholders apply as well?

When I first enquired I was told this was OK so I persuaded my wife to apply for a Platinum card. Since then I've been told it's only for the main cardholder.

Conflicting advice again!

No, I don't think it's conflicting advice v( . If your wife has applied for a plat card in her own name (and paid the associated fee circa £300) she will be eligible for the HH
,SPG and CX benefits in her own right (and will also earn the promo MRs that have been offered lately). If she has been named as a supplementary card holder on your account she won't (but if she is the main supp holder she will be your other PP beneficiary). Mr DL is my main supp and gets 'nowt save for his PP and insurance - my other supps get nothing save for the about to change insurance benefits (and I get the bills LOL :D ) .

no invite needed. Main cardholderonly (not supp).
Plat gets you CX Gold, Centurion gets you CX DM - but only for one year. After that you need to qualify.

Thanks JCBR
Well, it's a great offer -- so for £240 (net of quidco cashback) I have got 40,000 miles, OneWorld Sapphire status for a year, plus PriorityPass. :) Just goes to show that reading these frequent flyer websites is worth it after all!
