Clearwater / St.Petes Hotel Choice

Hi All,

One of my mates has to go to Clearwater on 5th. February for work (his main office is there) and will return on 11th. February. Flights are VS on the 75 out and the 76 return.

His firm has offered him a choice of 2 hotels:

Marriott Clearwater/St.Petersburg
or
The Grand Plaza, Clearwater.

Does any one of you have any experiences or advice/recommendations for him. He likes the sound of the Grand Plaza as its on the beach front but would welcome comments good or bad.

He will be a lone traveller looking to maximise some R n R time after work.

both get great reviews with the Plaza slightly better

The Marriott is near an office park but is convenient to a lot of things if he is going to have a car and wants to explore. Ive been to a few eccents at this hotel and it looks nice, has a small pool but the staff is always friendly. This time of year Clearwater beach should be alright to stay on. I would avoid it late February through April because the spring break college kids make traffic there a nightmare!

I would also say it depends on where he'll be working and how far he wants to drive each day. If he could get a third option I would recommend the Marriott on Sand Key or the Sheraton Sand Key, two of my favorites.

If he's working in St Pete and staying on Clearwater Beach he'll want to give himself plenty of time to get into the office. Pinellas County is beautiful but being so densely populated traffice in the mornings and afternoons tends to be quite heavy, especailly heading South in the mornings (from Clearwater to St Pete) and north in the afternoons.
