Hi All,

As you may have seen from another thread, I am planning a trip to Kuala Lumpar just for myself for a few days for a friends wedding. I have over 300K in VS Miles I would like to spend... if I can't get a direct Malaysia Airlines flight using miles does anyone have any experience on getting there by spending my VS miles. I want to fly Business or First ideally and its in January next year I am planning on going. I was looking at options of going via HKG...

Any help greatly appreciated as going out of the UK and turning left in the world is a little strange for me. :P

Thanks!

Afraid I cant comment on using airmiles etc as I never use that method (working in the industry !) However, I do go to KUL 2 or 3 times a year. Apart from MH who are the only direct/nonstop service from the UK (excluding air asia X, - which stops at the end of March anyway) SQ quite easy, simple transfer at SIN and a short hop to KUL. If you take VS to HKG, there are very limited connections to KUL that evening. (none I think on main airlins) Believe the CX and MH flights already gone by the time you get to HKG. my vote would be SQ via SIN or with someone like EK via DXB.

It's a very short hop from KL to Singapore.

The problem with that is that since SQ introduced the new J and F suites, they stopped redemptions from partners using miles, even including *A partners. I don't know how they really get away with that, but they do, it kind of trashes the benefits to customers of them being in an alliance. All SQ 77Ws and 380s have the new suites, so none are available other than in Y for rewards from London.

Clayts, if you cannot get Malaysia direct, you could try VS to HKG then Malaysia on the connection? I can't think how else to do it.

PVG is a good route for UC reward availability and with flights from LHR and KUL arriving early morning in PVG connections would probably be good. PVG isn't however a transfer hub AFAIK so you'd need to clear customs and immigration.
