Does anyone know what the problem was when arriving in London? Just prior to arriving at the gate, the captain came on the PA and said the "authorities" had asked him to keep the seat belt sign on and every stay in their seats. Next thing I know police are on the plane and escorting people off - but I don't know why. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Unless there was some sort of incident a fight for example that required an arrest the only reason I can think is that it was to collect someone who had been deported or extradited from the US to the UK and it was easier to remove them from the plane first.

Yes, I do know why - but all I can contractually say is that the police had to remove the individuals for security related reasons. It wasn't anything particularly dramatic however.
