On back of Amex plat, Hilton gold has been rolled for last couple of years, however now appear to of dropped to blue :O

Hi
When this happened to my husband he rang Hilton and explained that he was entitled to the higher card through Amex. They confirmed this was the case and issued the new card.
Regards Daffodil.

AmEx Plat gives you one year of HH Au free and then it is up to you to keep it through the correct amount of stays etc.

I know some people have had continued Au, but maybe they have finally realised their mistake.

If you check Amex web site for the platium card benefits it states :-
Enjoy complimentary elite tier membership including Hilton HHonors Gold VIP, Starwood Gold Preferred Guest, Hertz #1 Club Gold, and Avis Preferred.

There is no mention of a one year limit. It might be better to give Amex a call and have them clarify the benefits.

It is only year HH Au, just read the pack you got with your plat card, it is detailed in there.

We are HH Diamond through Amex Cent for many years, and have on more than one occasion been sent a blue card in error. A quick call to Hilton and the correct cards were issued.

:? Does nobody round here apart from me actually earn HHonors status from something as old fashioned as staying in the hotels? :)

In the last 10 months we have stayed at Hiltons in Dalaman, Moscow, Rome, Abu Dhabi and Ras AL Khaimah. In Ras Al Khaimah for being loyal to Hilton we were upgraded to The Royal suite and had only booked the basic room in the "Any Where Any Weekend" promotion for the bargin price of £80 per night.
It was pure luxury and made our holiday special.

Puts my upgrades at the Hilton Euston into perspective :D

LOL - I know what you mean. I have pseudo elite status thanks to Amex with SPG & Hilton but I treasure my earned Marriott status far more, and believe I receive far more benefits from it.

Surely the hotels / airlines know their real loyal customers and make sure that the real perks go their way, or am I just wishful thinking?

I know there will be tales of pseudo elites getting op ups and the like, as well as tales of earned elites getting nothing, but overall I would like to think the brands know who actually pads the execs bonuses by giving them frequent custom. 8D

I think the later....they can all be bought by some means....
Centurion VS Gold etc
Hertz Gold, available as much as the common cold...(in uk anyway)
Lifetime SPG Gold on back of ownership somewhere.
Look at the miles better benefits offered by a US plat card....

They (the suppliers) will get incentives for offering these benefits and is a potential route into new customers by dangling a carrot....
Some one could stay for weeks in an expensive Hilton in London and be in no better position to a first timer with a shiny card.....

Certainly in my experiences that is not the case, Nick. I constantly receive all the suggested benefits and quite often more from elite status whether earned or gained by another means.

From that perspective the simulated hospitality is efficient, though I do find the Hilton property to property variation in status offering a bit maddening.

I find the difference is when you stay somewhere on a regular basis; then you tend to get your preferred room etc.

Ironically, I'm almost there in terms of stay numbers as well... but it's so much better enjoying the gold benefits whilst on the road of earning the status...!
