Well I thought O2 did me a sterling job last week after my iPhone died by allowing my upgrade early (to a new iPhone 5), delivering it within twelve hours, and getting me set up again very quickly.

Then today my faith in O2 dived again ... when I was on the phone with them I asked to have my bolt ons transferred, one key one was the O2 US / Canada calling option which for about £4 a month gave a substantial discount on calling across the pond (which is something I do most of the day, every day) ... yes you guessed it wasn't, so having rung up (geddit) a massive bill in the last week I was back on the phone to O2 who kindly said they'd dropped this bolt on.

Now I'm just about ready to ship the phone back to O2 and cancel everything ... but a colleague told me about Rebtel which is an app that you use to call a local number (over WiFi or 3G) and it then calls your overseas number - it says it does this at up to 98% lower cost than calling directly. My colleague is a good person but I'm not asking him this question because he thinks Skype is OK quality, and I don't, I find most internet calling to be atrocious quality for my line of work ... so does anyone have experience of Rebtel over 3G or 4G, what is the quality of the call like?

Thank you y)

Have you ever tried Viber? iPhone to iPhone it is free anywhere in the world. I speak to friends in Singapore, Spain, Florida etc etc every week and it works fine. Ok, it does break out every now and then, but 90% of the time, it's good.

dialacode.com is 3p/min to US landline and mobile and it's not over wi-fi. I guess it's similar to Rebtel but since you just dial, no need to sign up, you could try it and see if you're happy with the quality.

Try Call2 as well. Using it in China and it's the same as you describe (callback from a local number) - works perfectly.
